Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She is a co-founder of The Huffington Post the founder and CEO of Thrive Global and the author of 15 books. Arianna Huffington is a writer TV personality, philanthropist, and TV host and also the proprietor and editor of The Huffington Post. Born in Greece Arianna Huffington immigrated to England together with her family around 16 years old. In Cambridge University she earned a MA qualification in Economics. When she was 21, she became the president of the renowned debating society The Cambridge Union' and was the first foreign born student who was elected to this position. A conservative syndicated blogger when she graduated, she was able to be the voice of Huffington Post. Arianna was able to attract numerous prominent contributors to post their views on culture and politics. Arianna rose to fame in 2003 after she decided to run as an independent candidate for the California recall election to replace then Governor Davis. Alongside this, she led the Detroit Project to develop fuel efficient cars. In 2009, she was ranked by Forbes as the most influential female media personality, taking the 12th position in the list and in the same year Guardian listed her on the top 100 list of media. AOL acquired The Huffington Post from AOL in 2011. Then she was appointed the president of AOL's media group. The group included several AOL-owned properties, such as Engadget AOL Style List and Patch Media. She was the daughter of journalist and management consultant Konstantinos and his wife Elli Stasinopoulos. Though she was close to her father it was the relationship she shared with her mother that formed her life. In her earliest years she demonstrated leadership skills which are still widely admired. She moved to England at 16, to pursue her education and then enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. When she was in college, she joined Cambridge Union's debate societies in the college which she later became the first foreign female president. In 1972, she earned a degree in Economics. She became a writer, a critic as well as a host on TV and a columnist after her graduation. The appearance she made in Face the music with Bernard Levin was also noteworthy.
